i dont think anyone has a "set in stone" mileage for the timing chain, but you should be fine on that.

as i previously stated, i would definitely recomend changing the LIM gaskets. besides that, looks like you have a good list to start with. maybe add pcv valve to it.

and if you do decide to do the lim, it is a good idea to change the stat, injector o-rings, and the 2 coolant sensors.

I will definitely follow your advice on the LIM and the other ancillary parts you mentioned.

I saw some detailed instructions on replacing the LIM somwhere and it did not look that bad.

Appreciate the input!

no, its not that bad at all.

by myself i had done mine in about 2-3 hours. that was with air tools for removal. NEVER use pneumatics for insallation!

and your welcome

and be sure to keep us posted on the negotiation

p.*. if he doesnt want to let it go go $1000 or less, be sure to mention that the SE is the lowest trim level with limited options, everything listed before is basic and standard for a bonneville.

I will definitely downgrade the car to him as much as possible to try and get to that 800 dollar level.

That would be sweet if this one of those diamonds in the rough that I could get 250 thousand out of with little repairs needed.

Don't know why GM is discontinuing the 3.8 soon. They are definitely going with theglobal engine platforms now.

I'll keep you posted of the negotiation and how it performs after I conduct a through tune up on it.

well, its a great engine, my personal favorite, but its still a push rod engine, and frankly, getting to be out dated. ohc is more effecient. engines with the the cam in the block will shortly, be very limited, if not phased out all together.
