www.minnesota.bonnevilleclub.com or something like that...thats why i was wondering if Jeff had full control of the domain name and if he could do that or if we could purchase that domain name or something...at the meeting we could start a fund of that...id be willing to set it up...i have had web page class in school and im goin into computers and goin to college next year for them so...it would be good...or if ssei95 you know what you rdoin on them...we could moderate it...i am on computer a lot and have high speed internet...756...so id be up for it...what do you think
Well, www.minnesota.bonnevilleclub.com might be feasable. Maybe not a fully hosted site but even if a link to the MN site. It all depends on if BC has the capability and if Jeff and the Mods are willing to set it up.

And for building the site... I have been thinking of getting my own domain for some time now. This would be just the kick in the a$$ I need to actually go do it.

I have spent the last 4+ years working as a PC tech. I have also done some web programming on the side (for fun, not for cash) and I have a good understanding of HTML, great at flash, and a little bit of a few other web tools and formats. If your going to be going to school for stuff like this we could hook up and build it between us. What do you think?

I know that MN Club GP members have their own site, their recent meet here in Mankato on June 7 had about 50 some cars. Whereas the idea for MNBC to have it'* own site is a good idea, I don't feel we have enough members to make it. How many steady BC members do we have in MN?

Well, I'm looking at this a few different ways.

1) we do have about 10+ active MN members that I've seen.

2) It will be easier to setup and get things running with a smaller group than if we waited untiil there were say 200 members trying to join in right away. Helps get the bugs out.

3) There has been alot of talk lately about getting meets together, wanting to post pics of the big and little meets that have happened, and a few comments about making a dedicated section for MN since it has had a recent "boom" (or so it seems) in MN memberships.

4) I have been looking for a reason to get a domain for a while. This "fits the bill". I need some good web hosting space to play with. This site would follow along the same rules that BC does. It would just be geared for MN type posts.

Hmm, seems that I should read the forums thoroughly before replying to email (you know who you are).

Anyhow...

At this point, a "Minnesota" forum will not be made in the primary forum. If Minnesota gets its own forum, then every other state will want their own too, leading to forum bloat.

Yup, the Minnesota ClubGP chapter has their own web site. In fact, I'm good friends with Eric Criswell, who is heavily involved in the MN Grand Prix scene. The most recent MNCGP meet was well-attended, as you can see in the photo.

If you want something like www.minnesota.bonnevilleclub.com to point to an external site, I can set that up. I think ClubGP did (still does?) something like that for the individual chapters.

In response to the cost question: if you're quoting domain name costs, you can do MUCH better. If you're quoting server costs, you can probably still do better. My costs are skewed because I run this site on a dedicated server instead of using a shared hosting service. I won't say exactly how much it costs, but it'* about an order of magnitude higher.

I figured as much. I didn't think that that would fly. That would make the admins of this site WAY too busy to keep up with that! I figured if we wanted to do this that it would need to be a seperate site.

That would be great. If/when we come up with the site and the content we can revisit this option at that time.

Do you have any recommendations for either domain name or hosting services? We'll look at all the posibilites but any shortcuts to good places are appreciated. We still need to look around more and see what is available that meets our needs.

well just a bit of FYI for you all, if you want a .com domain name, then I can get you one for about 8-9$ a year, hosting is about 15$ a month or less and varies in disk space and bandwidth.

It'* cheap and it works.

I've got the time, and the resources (Broadband at home and school) to work on this, or help moderate or whatever. I might be willing to help a little with the costs etc too, but i cannot host anything, my school blocks it and i would need to use a different port and my computer isn't on 100% of the time. I can also make some kick *** logos and photos on Photoshop
