A mail server will kill your bandwidth in the snap of a finger.

Bill is correct. I forgot to mention that using those mail accounts goes toward your bandwidth limit. If you have a broadband connection, you could setup an old 486 [or whatever], make it a L.A.M.P. server, and throw in some POP3 support, and you have a mail server. I am in the process of doing this, but my 486 doesn't like to boot anymore.. and keeping it on doesn't work either. One day I will do it.

i think a good question is how many of these members are still active? or once you get over a certain number of posts, and still active, would be good too. what does that bring it down to? 500 max? maybe less?

Not going to happen. There'* no point in bogging down our server or eating up bandwidth.
