Weird noise after changing SC pulley...?
I'm running the stock belt now. I don't know if that metal was from pressing the new pulley on, or if there was something grinding. Where ( and how) do I scan? Is this something I can have Autozone or someplace do?
Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to all this supercharged, computer controlled stuff. My experience is in carburated small block non-computer Chevys.

mikey, how far from Westerville are you?
My best advice at this point is to skedaddle over to INTENSE. www.intense-racing.com or private message Rogue on this forum. He'* their customer service guru.
INTENSE will help you out with a scan I'd bet (if any charge, it'll be nominal) and give you guidance on future mods.

I'm a few hours from Westerville. The main problem with that is I have to take off work to go there. Unless I get my 40 in on M-Th, and don't work Friday, then I could take the car there. I did notice some black stuff on the SC snout tonight, but I also noticed that I didn't get the belt back on the crank pulley completely after taking it off (damn darkness), and put it back on right. If by tomorrow night the noise doesn't go away, then it'* going back into the dealer next week.
Thanks for your help willwren.

Mike and Bill...
Thought it might be good to have this added information.
Currently I am testing and scanning my 97 with 3.4 pulley and gutted air box with a K&N drop in and TR55'* gapped at .055. So far it has been great and no issues on the gutted w/K&N.
Running 93 octane consistently and weather has been under 50 since the pulley swap, there is no issue with KR. If KR is going to be a problem, I assume it will not show until warmer weather. At that time I would probably aim to build a CAI or FWI to help reduce KR.

I'm pretty sure the noise I'm hearing is just belt slip. It changes pitch on acceleration, but stays the same pitch from there on. I'm going tomorrow to buy a Gatorback and see if that helps.
Also, how can I check the car for KR? I don't really want to drive two hours to Intense. Is this something that can be done with a scan tool? If so, what am I looking for exactly?

Sure enough it was belt slip. Stopped at NAPA today to get some plug wires, and instead of making trips all over, decided to get everything there. Bought a Gates belt, put it on and noise is gone!
Well, I got my car scanned today. I peaked out at 6* KR for a brief moment at WOT after the car had been sitting for about 20-25 min, with an ambient temp of 48*. After warming back up to a nominal temp of 183*, the KR spiked at 4* for a split second, then went to 3-2*. I've heard that 1* of KR can equal 3HP. My IAT read 72* during driving, and 100-102 while sitting parked at idle (time for a FWI). Cylinder #4 also read a misfire of 2-4 during idle, but after 1600 RPMs read no misfire.
Any thoughts, suggestions? I know that I should got a hi-flow cat and a FWI, but what would be the first thing you would do?
About cylinder #4...could it be a bad plug since none of the rest read any misfires? I'm thinking that this might be the one that I dropped trying to put it in. New plug wires, and no arc in the dark.
Also, after the Gates belt, the noise dissapeared, but I'm noticing a lot more black stuff on the SC snout than I did before. Try a Gatorback, or does the belt just need broke in?

Let the belt break in, clean the motor in about 2 weeks, and watch for more dust. If any appears, switch your idler to an oversized unit and use a Gatorback belt. Then allow the same break-in time with that one.
Any KR is bad. Especially in this weather. It'll be worse in the summer. Consider PEM'* or Headers in your future, or step up a pulley size if other methods don't eliminate KR.
