snout rebuild

Default snout rebuild

I have my m62 snout off, and the m90 instructions say I just tap on the shaft from the front with a rubber hammer to get it out, but its not budging. Yes I took off the retaining clip on the front, and yes the pulley is off. Doesnt look like anything else is holding it.. or is there???? Will it come out ok if I take it to a machine shop to have it pressed out? Any help is great, I want to get the snout done tomorrow, which is Saturday. Thanks,

I just did this last weekend to my 92 Bonneville, I also read the same thing you read and NO WAY WAS THAT THING COMMING OUT WITH A LIGHT TAP. Luckily at my work we have a big arbor press, I took it there and did all the pressing I had to do. (pressing the shaft out, pressing the old bearings out, pressing the new bearings in, pressing the new bearing on the shaft, and also pressing the shaft with the new bearing back in the nose cone.) I used the pully puller I had to also pull the peice on the end of the shaft that the coupler goes on, it worked pretty slick. No way could anyone do this without a press, in my opinion. Just curious, why were you changing your bearings/coupler, I did mine because I THOUGHT the bearings were squeaking, but after I got it all back together, the damn thing still squeaked, I believe it is the supercharger belt tensioner assy. that is shot. I have one on order from GMPARTSDIRECT.com ~$53

My coupler was clattering like crazy is why I intially started this endeavor. Once I got my snout off and looked at it, it really doesnt seem to have anything wrong with the bearings, but the ten oz. of SC oil its supposed to have has dissolved into about 1 oz. of some really black substance. No, I never have changed the SC oil before this, the guy we got the car from at 64,000 said he just had it done but now at 117,000, I just feel better changing the bearings, and I also ordered them with the coupler, so I have them, might as well put in. Thanks for your response, pretty much what I figured, I am taking it to a machine shop tomorrow to do the snout stuff. Rolling performance emailed me back too, just spray with wd40 and smack it somemore was their suggestion, I think I will opt for the press.
