It just won't make much boost, maybe 2-3# at this altitude (3700 feet) but never would make over 8-9 when new?

Thanks, TT
Tex.. your 94 may be a different part number.
On the question of how much boost you should see. New the cars are typically producing about 6-8psi of boost. I'd expect 7. If you are only getting 2-3psi (Bill chime in here) look for cracked and leaking vacuum lines. The one that everyone seems to have broken comes from the charcoal canister and is under the airbox. It connects the two metal lines. If you are getting boost I the solenoid is working, possibly the actuator is faulty.

Since I really haven't had any problems achieving boost..I'll leave this one to Bill before I give any wrong advice...but I'd be checking vacuum lines.

For the Series 1:

BCS: 12353309
But I'm not saying that'* Tex'* problem. It could be, though. 7-8 psi is normal for stock on a 94.

Thanks, I will check the vacuum hose(*) at noon. This isn't a new problem and I have neglected it, but it did occur at one point in time and wasn't a gradual thing. I ordered it new, just never was the horse I expected----but is mommas car so.......................

When you get the boost fixed, you'll see a remarkable improvement in power and efficiency.

You should have a suprising amount of power for the size of the car.

Well, that hose was as new and the one on top of the canister, but the preformed hose that goes to the vacuum manifold mounted along side the blower, was loose/swollen-----. I imagine getting that hose is a PITA, so I clamped it, will see if any improvement is seen.

There was a small amount of oil on that hose/fitting, likely what caused the swelling, I'll have to look later to see where it could come from.

Oh, it ran OK when new, for a 231. I can't even tell you what I was expecting after a life of BBC'* and stout SBC'*! I remember being more upset on it having a top end cutoff at 125 and having Z rated tires, lots of electrical gremlins I need to pursue as well-----for another forum I suppose.

Gentlemen, thanks again. TT

That did the trick guys. By the way, GM parts calls it a valve. Nothing else, just a valve. Thats why they kept telling me it didn't exsist.
