Check all of your pulleys, also. I'd wonder why you lost it in the first place!

Thats my concern too, although on a coiple occasions I know it would squeal, so hopefully it was just loose, and finally fell off! (crosses fingers)

If it squeels, then thats indicative of a messed pulley bearing somewhere. As mentioned check the pulleys and make ure they are alright.

And if it was too loose, then it means that your tensioner is bad.

You certainly want to check and make sure everything is working OK. Turn aech pulley by hand and wiggle them on the shaft to check for bad bearings.

If you are lucky, it was just really old and needed replacement... if not...

Alright attached the belt today finally. Damn $30 for a belt!!! I thought my Mitsubishi was expensive to upkeep! Anyway got the belt on according to what I think the book said. Here is what I got, my question is this bottom pulley I am concerned about. WHen starting the car I smell burning rubber. Also I need to tighten the belt, its flapping like crazy.
The red arrow indicated the belt in question.

Brian, you cannot tighten the belt. It'* a spring-loaded tensioner, pre-set at the factory. The idler pulley you pointed out is GONE. It'* supposed to be 3" in diameter, that'* just what'* left of the bearing.

Get that belt off there before you destroy it.

Read the Sticky topic "Don't overlook the obvious" in Performance and Brainstorming or find the Techinfo article on idler pulleys (in the performance section).
