Default what in the world is this ?

hello i am not sure if this is the correct place to post this. sorry if it isnt. but i have a 99 se with the 3800 engine. on the left front fender underneath where the hood rests. and beside the ecm box, there is a white componet, that is about 1/2 inch thick by 2 inchs wide, by 3 inches long. it has one plug on the end of it. can anyone tell me what this is ? i was looking earlier today and noticed it was not plugged in. so i am trying to decide if it something important........thanks

That would be your DRL (Daytime Running Lights) Resistor.

If you don't like having your head lights on during the day all you have to do is unplug it and your good to go. Unplugging it does not cause any bad effects at all.

I did that small mod to all of my 96 and newer Bonneville'* so I could drive with only my fog lights and parking lights.

And the unplugging of it does not effect the twilight sentinel either.

So whoever owned your car may have known about that or had a dealership disconnect it for them. Its not against the law to unplug it.
