I have a 2003 SSEI and recently I have been having some weird issues going on with my vents. Sometimes I will get in my car and turn on the A/C to full blast and nothing will happen. When this happens I will leave the A/C on and set to full blast. I've notcied that as I hit a pothole or large bump in the road etc. that it will then kick the A/C on. Sometimes I get in my car and its working fine, other times it just doesn't work and like I said, I noticed when I hit large bumps, etc it can sometimes kick it on. Not sure if this is a short or something but any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

When you say the AC doesn't work, do you mean the fans don't come on or just the temperature of the air isn't correct?

I'm sorry, I should've specificed. Its not really the A/C, its the vents. It doesn't matter if I have the temperature set to 90 degrees or 60 degrees theres just nothing coming out of the fans. Sometimes I get in my car, turn it on and it works fine. Other times I get in, turn it on, nothing happens and as I'm driving and hit a bump or roll over a pothole or something, it will turn on.

Oh..a nice intermittent problem.

Do you hear the fans running when the air isn't moving?

Sometimes in the winter when I am drving long distances and I turn the heat off for a bit, when I go to turn it back on, the damper door that seals the system when it is off will not respond and I'll be stuck with no heat. After a while i'll realize that its just fine. I'm guessing a sticking damper door or vent swing (if those are the proper terms). One mechanic thought it was a vaccuum issue, but alas, my vac line was fine. I'll be watching this thread to see if a solution arrises!

When I turn it on and the air is not moving I do NOT hear the fans moving. And in response to the "damper door", that might be it. When I click the **** to turn on the A/C I hear a click and then nothing happens. As I've said, within about 15 to 20 minutes it usually always turns on as I hit bumps in the road, etc.

It could be the blower motor control module which is in the heater near the blower motor. This controls the speed of the blower on the automatic control AC systems.

It could be the blower motor itself is bad. I recall one post from someone saying he had taken apart a motor that would work sometimes and not others and found a contact was out-of-place causing it not to touch sometimes. He repaired it. I believe he said he was an engineer.

What you really need to do is access the blower motor area and see if there'* power to the lead going to the blower when this occurs. If there is power, then the blower is failing. I would stick a pin into the hot wire for the blower motor and just set my meter on the floor of the car and wait for a problem to happen. Then turn the meter on and see if you're getting a reading. Don't forget to connect the meter to a good ground.

I will try the blower motor, however I don't think that is the issue since the vents work 75% of the time and only don't work about 25% of the time. It sounds like it might be a damper door or vent door issue (where the damper door would be sticking) according to the post earlier but I am not on the extreme end of technical knowledge, so i don't know. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

This is why I asked about the fan. If you have no blower motor movement, then the issue would be different than a door issue. Although it is possible that both are an issue. Since you do find intermittent issues..I would route around the connections and tapping the blower motor etc to see if it starts with each tap or if any connections are loose.

After much procrasination on my part I finally just replaced the blower motor and this fixed all my problems. Thanks for all the help
