Too Much Voltage.

Upon starting the car 14.5v would not be out of the question... Possibly even as high as 15v for a brief period...
Once you pass 17.1v the SES light will be set by the PCM as 17.1v is the problem or set point for the PCM... That voltage is really bad for the system...
On older alternators where there was a switched power source to the alternator, it was possible to see 18v with a batter that had a bad cell...
On the newer cars say 92+ Bonneville, the PCM supplies the voltage to the alternator, and I believe that the voltage varies depending on the PCM output and load or demand placed on the system...
Get a digital multimeter, and check the voltage at the terminals to see what voltage is being supplied to the battery... Anything from 13.0-15.0v falls into the normal range... Keep in mind that on a 93, with no load on the system, batter already charged, and engine warm, you should see the high 13v range possibly 14v on the money...

yeah mine gets a little high sometimes, but usually only when i first start up, seems normal to me, and then it sits about at the half mark and stays there while i am driving. But i would never buy some crappy wallyworld battery...if I were gonna buy a battery i would buy an optima or another of what i have now, an interstate...that is an amazing battery...i left the lights on before for 12 hours and the car still started. Doubt you could say that about a wallyworld battery...

On another note...
What do all of these Batteries have in Common?
EverStart Maxx / EverStart
Duralast
Prostart
Energizer
Die Hard
Eveready
Motorcraft
Mazda
Mitsubishi
Honda
Optima

Correct... They are all made buy the same company with a difrent name slapped on them... Produced by Johnson Controls....
Yes thats right my Crappy EverStart Maxx batteries are the exact same thing as the top of the line Die Hard, Duralast Gold and the like... and they Are the makers of the Optima battery...
I have never gotten less than 4 years out of an Everstart...
