Default taillight/parking lights problem

I'm having a few electrical problems with my bonneville. I've tried messing with it a little, checking fuses and connections, but haven't had any luck so far.

My problems are: When I turn on my running lights or headlights, the normal taillights come on, but the outer brake lights light up too. Also, if I hit the brakes while my lights are off, my parking lights turn on along with the instrument cluster lighting up. Also, my remote starter doesn't work anymore. All these problems started at the same time, which makes me think theyre related. The remote starter when pressed will ding in the car and turn on the parking lights and instrument panel like normal, but the starter does not engage.

All of my brake light bulbs are in good working order and when I press the brakes, all of them light up like theyre supposed to. I've been working on this problem off and on over the last few days but to no avail. I believe theres a fuse panel under the glovebox, but I haven't checked in there yet for anything. Id rather try to resolve this issue myself before I have to take it in to get it fixed.

So far I've replaced the brake light switch and that did nothing. In the wiring schematic in the Chilton'* manual, the only thing I can see connecting the brake lights to the parking lights is the Lamp Monitor Module which parts stores can't get.

One last thing, I was looking underneath the fuse box at the wiring and found this:

The red wire with the inline fuse isn't listed in the schematic and neither is the red/white wire. The red wire goes to fuse 8, but I can't see where the red/white wire might go.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys.

it sounds like your remote start may be a major factor in these problems

I would look for any wires that may have come frayed or untaped

That was my thought too, but I checked out all the wiring at the remote start box and I have power everywhere I'm supposed to have it, but it won't give power to the "Start" wire.

Aftermarket wiring/installations is one of the main items that can lead to other electrical problems and is one of the first items to look at in diagnosis. You probably need to trace that red and white wire to see what it is attached to. Also, what is fuse #8 for in the '92?

Yeah, the remote starter was a pretty shotty installation if you can even call it that. When I got under the dash for the first time I was amazed at the amount of electrical tape I found. Along with the wire run under the hood to the coils were speaker wire.

And if it helps, when I press the brakes, my instrument panel gets a little bit brighter.. Unlike a normal car where the dash lights might dim a little when you press the brakes.
