Default Some thing got Fried.

Today after i weft my first class and got in to my car i went to the BP up the road. When I got back in and went to put the CIg Lighter back into the plug with the car and radio on when i incerted the lighter I herd a poping noise and the sterio stoped working the car was still on. I turned the car off and restarted it the radio dose not work all buttons are not functional the only thing that works is the volume and all it dose is adjust the amount of static i hear.

About a half an hr later i stoped driving and knoticed the clock was stuch at 11:55 the time it happened. When i started my car again the normal BEEP BEEP turned into a BBBEEEEPPP noise that gets a little louder from start to end of the beep. Also the clock no longer lights up at all.

Dose any one know if some thing in the system shorted out other than the deck and it is the stock one. I will remove the recever tonight and see if i can see any thing and if the chime goes back to normal.

Start by checking the cig lighter. Sounds like that'* where your problem started. It'* possible something is still in there and partially shorting the circuit that is also the radio power.

Had something similar in the '89 Bonneville that I had. I had to disconnect the lighter. I replaced the whole thing. A few months later, it did it again. I then disconnected it, and left it disconnected.

One of the power prongs in the lighter is hitting the side of the lighter. You most likely have a blown fuse. You will need to fix the lighter and replace the fuse.

If your interior lights are glowing dimly then this is probably what the problem is.

All of my lights work fine I will try to check all of the fuses tomorrow. I have removed the radio and the cars beep is still messed up. The lighter still works I used it to light my Cigar mini. I tryed uesing a lighter from one of the cars at my work and thats when it happened it did not even get pluged in it just touched the side metal when trying to insert it.

I Guess Ford lighters and GM plugs do not like each other

If the fuses are not blown I will try disconnecting the plug What is the easest way to disable it or get to the connector for it

Please take the lighter out and check it. If that was when your trouble started, that is where you should start.
