Passed on SS myself due to the blue coating, and the failure rate.
I believe the blue coating to be a two-fold problem. First off, it reduces output compared to a clear housing, and secondly it will create more heat inside the bulb from what I've read. This will cause it to wear faster.
They also glare slightly more then white, or the std yellow tinted bulbs on snow and wet surfaces.
