Default "Security" light won't go out..... 1991

Hey all,

Just out of the blue my SECURITY light won't go out. Arg!!!
When the car is off, doors unlocked, it flashes.
When the car is off, locked, it remains solid.
When the car is on, doors locked/unlocked, it'* off.

Need help asap.... I'm thinking this could lead to a dead battery tomorrow morning.

Bump....

Ok... I tried removing the instrument panel fuse, and the fuse for the theft deterrent, didn't stop the light.

Is there anyway to completely remove/deactive the factory alarm system.
I read somewhere about a 20amp fuse I've got to remove, but I don't exactly know where.

2nd bump.....

Disconnected ALL cables to the lock on the trunk.... didn't help.

If I remove/disable the factory security system, will that stop it.
If so, how do I disable/remove the factory alarm?

How'd I miss this?

IF you have the carpet lining on the underside of the trunk lid, remove it. Between the layers of the trunk lid itself, in one of the little holes, you'll see a mechanical cable coming from your trunk lock cylinder (the thingy you put he key in) to a small electrical connector.

Disconnect it.

Still have the problem?

My trunk is a bit different.... the wires go inside and to the drivers side before they go down.

All wires from the lock/latch area of the lid are accounted for and disconnected.

But I'll take another good look tomorrow.... I really think the solution to my problem is to disarm/remove the factory alarm. Just gotta figure out IF it'll actually help... and how to do it.

It could be.... but the DIC isn't showing any of them as open.
One thing I did right before I noticed the "security" light was open my trunk via my aftermarket remote. Got in drove the car 10mins, when I got out the "security" light was on.
I couldn't find the factory hood sensor when I looked yesterday either.

Does anyone know if I disable/remove the factory alarm, if that will stop the security light?

*grumble*

Here'* a thought: first of all, let'* stop trying to "fix" things by disconnecting them.

What I recommend is to first reconnect the factory wiring as it was before anyone started disconnecting stuff. This will then enable troubleshooting of the symptom(*), whatever they are at that point, via the factory manuals and procedures.

My initial thought was that the Security light was signalling a poor connection through the ignition key, if your car does in fact use a resistor chip in its ignition key. Once other stuff started getting unplugged or disconnected, it may have mucked things up by giving the Security system more errors to detect (open circuits to one or more monitored zones of the car, most likely), and consequently the Security warning light would thus be even _less_ likely to go out than back when there was only the original problem to try and figure out.

I know I'm coming into this a bit late, but it'* a little hard to offer detailed advice if more stuff is getting disconnected as time goes by. Rant mode off now...

acg_ssei.... first off... relax... deep breathes....

Of course if I disconnected something and it wasn't the problem I reconnected it.
Everything right now, is the exact way when the problem started.

No my 91 does not have a resistor chip in it.

I still haven't fully explored the trunk, I did disconnect 3 wires (one at a time), and then all at once, but nothing changed. Those wires were reconnected once they were determined not to be the problem.

Okay, I'm fine now, really...

Cool. You'd be amazed how many people leave half the wiring disconnected...

All righty. Getting back to your original description here:

When the car is off, doors unlocked, it flashes.
That part is normal; it'* the system reminder telling you to lock up the car to arm it.

When the car is off, locked, it remains solid.
Okay, this part is a little suspicious: It'* supposed to be on solid after you've armed the system (e.g. locked the car with its key, with its remote, or by pressing the inside door lock button while the door was open), but it'* supposed to turn itself off after 20 seconds or so. (That'* the '93 spec; I'm assuming that your '91 is similar.)

When the car is on, doors locked/unlocked, it'* off.
Again, that part is normal.

So to restate, is your only known problem here that when you return to your locked car after some period of time, the Security light is still blazing away?

Actually it'* not normal for the security light to flash unless a door is open.
If the car is unlocked, no doors open, it should not constantly flash, at least it hasn't in the 14yrs I've had the car.

I'm going to dig around for that mysterious 20amp fuse under the dash that'* supposed to disconnect/remove the factory alarm. I hope that fixes my problem, because I'm running out of options.

I know which one it is.. would you like to know?

bottom, middle, it is a 20amp, I think there are only two on the bottom row. this controls the locks, lights, and alarm. I believe it is fuse 11.. but don't quote me on that
