Oil level control module service?
Have any of you had a problem with the oil level indicator telling you that the oil level is low when it really isn't?
I performed the shop manual diagnostics on my '93 SSEi a while ago, and the oil level sensor in the pan measured ok (200 Ohms, if I remember correctly) and the wiring tests passed, but the light still turns on so the diagnostic says to replace the oil level module.
I removed the module and opened its cover, and checked all components except the larger of the 2 ICs, part #79009 or something like that. There were only 2 ICs on the circuit board, and the other one was a common 8-pin opamp if I recall correctly. I replaced the 8-pin chip but the problem remains so it must be a problem with the other chip. All of the resistors, diodes, and transistors tested ok. I can't find any part info for the 79009 chip.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Bill...I was looking at the chips from inside the cluster and couldn't locate them or any cross reference to them as well. I hate to say but apparently the company GM picked them up from either made them specific and no reference exists or they just numbered them to make it impossible.
Good luck. Can you supply the expected return and see if its a problem somewhere else?

The whole module is made by a company named Casco, so the #79009 IC may be one that they custom make. I couldn't find any info about that company. Usually, when an IC is proprietary, the manufacturer etches off or grinds off the part number info, but that'* not the case here.
I haven't found any info that'* detailed enough to specify the expected output, but I suspect that the problem is in the module because I disconnected it and now the light doesn't turn on (and it no longer annoys me 30 seconds after every time I start the engine).
Unless I find a replacement module somewhere at a reasonable price, I'm going to leave it disconnected. Hopefully, if the oil level is ever truly low, the oil pressure gage will let me know.

I wouldn't be pulling any warning bulbs out. It'* always better to have redundant systems and warnings.
I would fix the problem and have ti working. But that'* me..my opinion.
