Default new switch new key...

hey fellas,now if it is the fact that i would have to replace my old switch because the wires are broken,does that mean i would have to figure if my vats/passkey-II sysytem has to be reset through a GM.mechanic or does the system have the capable relearn feature.Because i would be just confused as to what needs to be fixed next.
