What's OEM part # for 1996 (or 95) headlight switch?

Thanks

Hmmm the part number isn't on the actual switch. www.GMpartsdirect.com will have the number. However you probably won't find a part number for the 1995, I believe it was discontinued due to issues with it. You will want a 96-99 switch that can be purchased at your local parts stored. Only thing to keep in mind is that you will need the twilight sentinel ring for a 96-99 as well. It was different from the 95

many thanks

thanks a million for the wiring diagram. I've wired clip and plugged in light switch but now only have headlights.Come to fing out that the car had other symtoms prior to the headlight switch meltdown.
I ran across many others on this site with the same problem in my search for the clip shematics. Back to square one. I'm starting with the fuses, moving on to the ground buses.
Anyway thanks again. This site as been a great wealth of information and help.
Steve

Eureka!

All systems go. Turns out dash light fuse and tailight fuse both burnt. Replaced both and everthing is working fine. I'm hoping that they went out when the switch burnt up or during removal and replacement of the switch. ANyway thanx again I can tell you what a great resource this site has been for me.
Happy Holidays.. Steve

Will the 99 head light switch work on my 92?

No, as I should have mentioned in your post about the headlight swtich. 92, 93, 94 switches are not compatible with any other year. 95 melts and 96-99 are the replacements for those years. ;)

Hi,

I'm dealing with the same issue on my son's girlfriend's car. I found the fuse box under the dash (left) but I don't see any burned and I can't be sure I'm looking at the correct fuse ~ the manual is kind of vague. Which fuses are for the dash and the taillights?

You could help me be a hero! Thanks.

Oh by the way. How do you get the switch out? Do you have to remove part of the dash? How do you do that?

Tgunder... what year is your car?

95's are known for melting the switch and connector. If you have a 95, that is most likely the problem. To pull the switch you remove the gauge trip piece after removing the dash trim piece.

It is a 95. Looks like it might be the switch. I got some pictures from this site that help me to visualize what I'll be getting into. If I can find a switch at the local parts shop i may just try to pull the dash panel and swap it out. If the connectors are not burned up, it sounds like it could just be a plug and play. There's always hope! Thanks to everyone. I'll let you know.
