Default fuse question

strange happenings....... last night my buddy driving behind me pulls up and says I have a break light out. last month Pat told me I had a parking light out.

so now its later on last night and there both working. but.....
my drivers side headlight is out, so I figure I would drive home with my highs on.
Nope neither high beam would turn on.

Today, I start the car.same thing, no headlight. I open the hood and open the fuse block
and the car dies in the process.

so I have alldata open on the lappy outside. notice fuse # 41 says Start circut breaker.
which is a maxi breaker 30 amp.aluminim looking fuse.(not a maxi fuse or relay)which is the only one like it under the hood.

ok so I steal a 30 amp maxi fuse from cool fan1. which is a regular plastic looking fuse.
started right up and all lights are working.

now my buddy pulles up so we shoot to the Advance near me. they dont have any in stock and every other parts place is closed.

so my question is do you think the 30amp plastic will burn out quicker that the 30amp aluminim one.
whats the difference?
I do plan on going to a dealer tomorrow for the correct fuse.
should I drive it around tonight or not?

the only thing I can think of is the alum is a "slo-blo" . They are designed to take a higher spike without popping, but as in a regular, can't take anything steady over 30A.

It could if that fuse is still out of the fan. The PCM needs to 'see' the fan load or it'll trip a light. I can force mine by turning on the low-speed fan. The CEL will light if it'* on when it shouldn't be, or off when it should.

Don't replace a CB with a fuse. Don't drive a 2k with any kind of electrical issue in the fuse block.

after 5 diff stores and 3 dealers I found one. it was in Toasty town. cadillac dealer.

Dude says they should re-set themselves, I'm like, Really. so I test it and sure enough the old one worked. Don't care. I put the new one in and everything seems fine now.

replaced the fan fuse and the SES light went out as well.

still not sure if I should drive her to Rhode Island tonight.

They are auto-resetting circuit breakers. If it doesn't reset properly, either the breaker is bad, or you still have a problem somewhere in the circuit.

If it resets or fails to reset, but in a random, unpredictable fashion, the breaker is female, and operating in 'that time of the month'.
