Just so I could say that I have tried everything, I took the new EGR back to the parts store and told them that it does not work. Surprisingly, they exchanged it for another one without any arguement. I put the new one on and the code is GONE !! I guess the old saying is true - "just because it is new doesn't mean it works".
Now, another problem. Once the EGR code went away, the MIL came on with a new code. (yes, the MIL light is now working again). The new code is a catalyst efficiency code (420).
Am I correct in assuming that my CAT has been junk for some time now, but since the EGR was not working, the PCM was not reading 02 correctly and did not realize the CAT was below the efficiency threashold? Now that the EGR is working and the PCM is reading 02 correctly, the code was thrown.
I can't believe that it is just coincidence that this new code appears at the same time the EGR code was fixed.......

The catalyst efficiency code is comparing the input or exhaust gasses at the front O2 sensor with the output or exhaust gasses right after the catalytic at the rear O2. It is then saying..what it sees isn't right or the catalytic isn't reducing the amount as the programming in the pcm expects to see it.

How are these codes showing on the scanner, but the MIL is off?
I know the bulb is not burnt out, because it comes on during the key on cycle.
Did I somehow blow something when I was testing the connector? I pulled every fuse in both fuse blocks and there were no blown fuses.
