does anything else run through the park/neutral switch? door locks from park to drive? auto unlock after drive to park and engine shut down. Just trying to understand the big picture and rule out possibilities as logically as possible...

Thats about the size of it when you hit the OBD2 System..
You have a MALL Module..... This module controls the Interior lighting, Locks, Keyless, Horn Chirp-Lamp flash, Trunk release I believe..
Just to see what the Module looks at and actuates is nuts
If you knew everything you car was doing it would be nuts..
I'll give you an example of the older keyless system.. The older system had the Drivers Unlock Relay and Trunk release relay built into the Keyless Module.. The Drivers door Unlock function was completely separated from the unlock function of the other 3 Doors...
If you were to depress the unlock button on the Passenger door with the keyless module unplugged only the 3 doors would open as the Drivers door was isolated to the Module.. When you depress Unlock on the passenger side door the Module sees this input pulse and applies the drivers door unlock relay so that all 4 doors will unlock... Freaky system, but works great...LOL

there is no control module for trunk release. the remote side has a module, but it ties in a the relay. the mechanical side is completely independent of it.

i just took the switch apart and there isnt much to it. literally you just push in and the contacts touch and there is a spring return..should i just clean this up or do i really need to get a new one? cant really see anything that could "break" here...
