Cleaned the holes as best as i could and still got nothing. Thinking of going to UPullRParts (boneyard) here in MN and just grabbing a whole new unit. Now if I do this and plug the new one in and the same thing happens, does this mean I have a short elsewhere in the wires? and where would that be?

I am not sure on that for that model year or mine and no pun intented, I hope I never do. A swap may may help give you an answer to your problem. I doubt a short though; fuse is still good?
Well, swapped it out, plugged it in and nothing once again. pulled the cover off the hood release and checked the ground, unscrewed it, wiped it off and still got nothing. Where else should I look??
I am not very familiar with the dash electrical, but I do want to re-ask what 1993 SLE asked in post 2. Have you checked the grounding Buss for corrosion? It is located near your left driver'* foot alongside the door rocker panel under the carpet.
Has your carpet ever been really wet?
This may not fix it, but we have had a number of members that have resolved mysterious electrical issues by drying and cleaning that buss.
Let us know.

P.*. I'm trying to get you a pic of it, but am having some technical difficulties. I'll see if I can get one of the other guys to help.
"HEY GUYS!!!! HELP!!!"
