crazy radio and steering wheel thing going on....

steering wheel buttons dont work...infact they shut the radio off...but the lights work on it...its weird too that the radio will randomly tune up or down or if a CD is in...it will track up or down....what could it be?

i will look into this but the buttons dont seem to stick they work fine...but there seems to be a crossed wire somewhere...if a press one it will just shut off my raido and sometimes but rarely it works fine...

Sounds like you have one or a combination of stuck buttons.
The steering wheel controls are quite simple in operation. Instead of multiple outputs, there is only 1 output...a variable resistance to the headunit. The headunit reads the resistance, looks up the resistance table programmed into it, and executes the command based on the resistance that was read.
In this case, the toothpick mod wont work. The button switch is internally shot, so you would either have to replace all the buttons (hey you might as well if you gotta tear into it) or find a junkyard replacement. Even then, there are no guarantees.

I should point out that Mouser Electronics has ample supply of tactile buttons that should be excellent replacements for the ones that are in the steering wheel controls. I also have a spare set sitting here that I may very well tear into, desolder one of the buttons from the board, and reference my Mouser catalog to see if any buttons they sell will work.
