Exclamation Climate Control Dimmer

Hi,

i searched a lot, but the last post which helped me out is from 2003 and ended with a complete change to a newer style Control.

Here'* my problem:

I have a factory Radio installed and the Electirc Climate Control.

All Connectors are connected also the purple/white wire, but the Display from the CC doesn't dim.

I checked the wire and connector on the Radio with a multimeter and i've got ever a 0 Volt reading on the Purple/ White wire.

Where could be the Problem?

I've readed that it should be between 10-12V when the headlights are on, but from where does this signal come?

Could it be a Problem in the Radio??

How could i change the wiring so that i also can install a better Radio??

Thanks

Manni

Oh boy..it'* been a while. I forget if that should have +12V from the headlight switch or if it'* variable with the headlight switch dimmer.

Easiest thing it to probably pop out your switch and see if the wire color matches up. Usually GM used only one color for each of those functions.

The radio in the 92/93 is what controlled the dimming function on the Climate control. In 94, this switched to an internal dimming function on the climate control, but still the same type of control unit. In 95, they switched to the new style programmer, which allowed you to select the position of the airflow, and the programmer had the MODE button for this, and was also internally dimmed.

Do you have a picture of which radio you have in your 93? Also, the climate control head unit as well? This could help us get this solved.

Just looked at your wanted thread and saw you have the correct radio and Climate control, so my guess would be that there was an issue with your dimming function in the radio, or the wiring for it.

Here is a picture from my old 93 SSEi where I have a 94 Climate control and a 94+ Radio in it. You can see the Auto button is not a solid orange, which denotes it to be a 94 climate control unit.

hmm, damn, now i made so nice pics just kiddin...

i removed the headlightswitch this evening and checked it, there is only the green wire for dim everything.

I cleaned it up and put it back in.

the green wire deliveres +12V when the headlights are on, it it delivers it also to the radio, but on the purple/white wire i don't have any voltage at any time, so my climate control does not dim.

when i give +12 on the purple / white wire, the display goes complete off.

isn't there a way to wire this control up that i could put in another radio?

or could i only fix it with a 94 style control?

How is this one wired up?

PS: does anyone know why the hazard flasher light in the dash isn't working and doesn't have a bulb in it?

Yesterday i tried to do the Climate Control Diagnostiv, but it havn't worked.

i can press both buttons as long as i want, but it won't go into the diagnostic mode.

Why?

i treid with the Control Off and On aso...

but nothing helped. Does anyone have an idea?

PS: the control itself works perfect, all buttons work fine and do what they should do.

I believe you could try another radio to see if that helps. Seems like the dimming function on your current one might not be working. I'll check my manuals and see what it says before they get shipped off to you.
