Default Battery Gauge going crazy....

Okay everytime i hit the brakes my battery gauge will drop into the red but will go right back up again.... I have changed the battery, and cleaned the battery wires... so the only thing i have left is the altenartor.. unless you guys think of something else before i go and buy a new one.... also when i put new battery cable ends on i strped the wires back a about 3 Inches and it looked like the cable is corroded inside the plastic covering.... could this be the problem? thanks Nick

Nick, for starters, there can't be any corrosion. When outer sheath is stripped from cable you should see bright copper, additionally when you cut cable, there should be bright copper all the way through the cross section. You may have to replace whole cable assemblies as required. Not so sure you need to replace alternator just yet. Get the battery cables (positive & negative) up to standard first, then we'll see how things look after that.

My car kind of does the same thing. I have a 92 Se. as long as im driving the battery wont go down, but when im stopped at a light, if i have the everything on, the battery will start to go down, does this mean something needs to be replaced?

It'* typical for the voltage to drop a bit at idle. The alt isn't spinning as fast.

Default close to same problem

I hae a 97 SSE was having the same problem when I was at idle the voltage would drop down and it got to the point where the car would actually cut out but keep running. The problem turned out to be a bad battery cable connection on the neg side. So if you have any issues whatsoever with your cables i would definately replace them.
