Default anyone know anything about HUD

Hello all, new to the bonneville club. i'm having a issue with my hud, i've searched all the elec. forums here and didn't see anything close to what i have going on. heres the deal......its a 93 bonne ssei, had the tranny rebuilt over a year ago, well the car sat all winter during this process, when i got it back the hud is just going whacky.....all lit up(every light on it) and just flickers non stop.i've recently changed the ecu (due to some other issues...draining battery, few stalling incidents and cutting out during hard accelerations -problems solved-fuel pump getting weak , auto leveling constantly running, and probably some codes that were uncleared).honestly i was hoping the ecu would fix the hud, but nothing changed....well the mph on the hud does work the first time i drive it after having the battery unhooked, but all other lights are still lit up,then after shutting off and restarting it goes back to every thing lit up.i've checked all grounds, not ground buss'*.will check them tomorrow..is there a hud module???another thing i'm not sure if its related or not.........my keyless entry will only sometimes work if i hold it near the bottom of the dash-pass side.and the interior lights go off as soon as i shut the drivers door, when shutting the pass side door the lights stay on for minute or so like they should. everything else on the car works fine.any one have any ideals i would greatly appreciate it and if i can help anyone with the headaches i've had i'm more than willing to share them, thanks all and be safe

Hello, and welcome to our group. You may want to consider captilization, punctuation and paragraphs in your posts. Yours is hard to read.

Start with getting those ground busses cleaned, then let us know if you still have the problem.

Howdy and welcome..

The hud gets it'* inputs via wire the same as the dash. There is no seperate module to worry about.

When you say all is lit up, directionals, check gauges, fuel light, high beam indicator?

Default hello

Hello again, and many thanks to everyone who has replied.

Ok, i checked the buses this morning, and all was fine except for a little moisture.

i'm trying not to confuse anyone here, but the HUD has been all lit up,meaning yes every indicator (fuel gauge, turn signals, high beam, etc. even the numbers for the mph.) is bright and flickering.

Last night i was tracing down my draining battery problem, using a test light between battery and post. The first thing we checked was the auto level fuse, and that was the problem . So then after hooking the battery back up and driving home awhile later the HUD is working . This has happened a couple other times after having the battery unhooked, but usually only works the first time it is drove after reconnecting the battery.

I went out this morning and checked the buses, which were very clean.Started the car and the HUD is still working but its not quite right, the numbers ( for the actual mph)is bright but you can still see all the other indicators, just not as bright.

Also, what would cause the "humming" noise i'm hearing from the HUD? Its really hard to describe, but its a electronic type of humming. Mostly when i put the dim switch all the way down is when i can really hear it.

Could it be the actual HUD unit itself??

I've searched many different forums and haven't found any thing even close to this, surely this car can't be the only one that has ever had any HUD trouble....lol.

Thanks again, and i appreciate any advise anyone can throw my way.

I've had a few HUD'* out of cars and wired a few into cars. They only consist of a cirucuit board and a few LED'* to light up the different things. The image is reflected to the windshield via a mirror that in 92-95 is adjusted via manual cable and in 96-99 is adjusted via electric motor.

The humming is quite odd... This one is stumping me as to what could be going on. I'd pull the hud out and check the grounds going to the connector for any backfeeding of power etc.

Corrosion from a leaky windshield is a good GUESS at this point, but ultimately, I agree that you'll need to pull the unit for inspection.

Definatly pull the unit. The HUD uses PWM for brightness and you could be hearing it die.

Need to clarify and clarify, the HUD is not an LED or LCD unit. It'* a VF display like the ECC and the DIC/Compass.
