this is from the fsm
transmitter programming is done by
turn ign switch off
jumper 4 and 8 on the dlc (you've got that right) (blk/wht and blk)
close all doors
turn ign switch on (engine not started or running)
door locks will cycle
press and hold lock/unlock on one transmitter
after 30 second delay the doors will lock and unlock
DO NOT TURN IGN OFF or the first transmitter will become inoperative
in order to program extra transmitters repeat press and hold lock/unlock on extras
disconnect dlc jumper
turn off ign
if you don't get the first door cycle, the problem is with the RFA.

This included jumpering also 4->5 since 5 is also a black/white as is 8.

OK, so I don't know if anyone is going to believe this or not!!!
I spent a couple hours at the local junkyard today searching for a replacement one of these, and failed complete, although I did find a new trunk light switch which I needed out of a FLATTENED '96 SE.
So I came back home to reinstall the "dead" old receiver unit in the car, so we could still have lock-unlock functionality while I waited to get a new one.
I hook it up, press the lock button, the car does it'* "bing bing bing" sound, then I press it again and the car locks, ok that was expected.
Then just for the hell of it I decided to try jumpering the 4-8 once again, cause why not, it couldn't hurt. I put the jumper in, close the door, turn the key, and LOCK-UNLOCK, the reprogram sequence started to work!!!!!!!!
So I guess the Motorolla micro controller in there just needed a good restart since it doesn't ever get restarted in its always on state.
So I reprogrammed my 2 fobs and I'm a happy guy!
Thanks for the help everyone.
