94 Bonneville SE won't Start
I am having problem with a 99 I just bought ... still on its shakedown cruise.
The starter, which was replaced 13 months ago, starts. But then maybe the next time.
everything is dead and just get a clunk. Starts when I jump it. Had the batt, alt etc. checked and they check good.
Could this be a solenoid problem?
thanks
I just got back from walking home in the cold because my bonneville is having the same problem. It was sitting in the snow and cold for at least 3 days, I went to go the store and it started right up, JUST FINE. I got done with the store, turned the key, nothing. The battery is fine, I had plenty of gas, all the lights come on, everything works, just nothing when i turn the key. Another thing that i noticed when i turn the key is the E brake light comes on, even though i took it off, and that everytime i turn the key, all the dials go crazy and spin everywhere. Plus the compass, DIC, and climate control go off when i turn the key....any ideas?

Pull your battery cables and clean them up REAL good. That is more then likely the problem. Enough amps get threw to turn on lights and such, but not nearly enough to turn over the starter.
I swear this car is messin with me. I came back 2 hrs later to get a tow and it started right up...UNBELIEVABLE
And btw you moderators are certainly on top of these posts, nice job. I posted my last comment a few hours ago and got a reply soon after.

Here I am again, car not starting. I'm afraid to go anywhere now in fear that I'll be stranded. I just get nothing when i turn the key and the battery is fine. I'll have to try cleaning the connections but what i don't get is why I'm still getting power if the terminals are corroded.

If it is your battery cables being corroded, they can allow enough amperage threw to turn on lights, radio, etc. But not enough to turn over the starter. Do you here any click when you turn the key? Other possibilitys are bad neutral switch, bad ignition switch, bad starter. If your getting a click the neutral switch, and ignition switch is fine. That leaves bad cables, or bad starter.

And I'll put money on the battery cable being corroded. That even got me 2 years ago. Now I clean my cables 2 times a year
