Default 89 Bonneville SE - Parking lights stay on

Hi - I'm a new member with an electrical problem. When I got home Friday the parking lights stayed on after turning off the headlights. Changed the headlight switch Sat morning but that didn't fix the problem. The car is equipped with the Twilight Sentinel. I used to be pretty good at fixing electrical problems but was amazed at the amount the wires, relays & mysterious boxes under the dash. Can anyone help?

Ted

just to be sure, you did turn off the sentinal right?

okay, now that that'* out of the way, one thing i might suggest is popping off your wood trim, pulling the head light switch assembly out, and then unplug the sentinal, and then the headlight switch. if the lights go out, it is likely the switch is the offender <which ever one made the lights shut off when you pulled the plug>, and if the lights remain on, i would check relays. pretty soon, them experts will chime in, and help intensify the search.

Thanks for the reply. After a little bit of work I found that the Twilight Sentinel Module was fried. It has that lovely burnt electrical smell & looks like it got hot enough to unsolder one of the connections. By simply unplugging the module the parking lights went out. The good news is that everything (except the Twilight Sentinel) works fine without the module. I noticed a couple other threads here from people whose lights wouldn't come on. I would suggest unplugging the module & see if it also cures that problem. I decided not to replace the module & wrapped the connector with electrical tape. If anyone wants to try this the module is under the dash on the right side of the steering column. On my 89 it'* a white box with a single connection that has twelve wires. Mine also had a sticker on the top that said "Twilight Sentinel - replace do not repair". Of course the sicker couldn't be seen by looking up under the dash.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Wow, that'* serious. There'* too many wires in these cars. They need to go fiber optic.
