Default 850 vs 855 lamps

Hi there,
My car calls for 850 lamps for the fog lights.
I accidentally bought an 855 lamp and put it in, and it seems much brighter.

I took it out and exchanged it for the 850, as I was afraid I could melt the lens.

The difference is the 850 has a black cap on the tip of the bulb, the 855 does not, thus allowing the 855 to shine much brighter.

Has anyone used an 855 in place of the 850? Did they work okay??

I thought it could be a quick, inexpensive upgrade from this post here:

Thanks!
Adam

the lights have a brighter wattage, and there is no coating on the end of the bulb...
