1996 Bonneville SSEI Traction control/Check Engine Light
I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue before. Here is whats happening. Every now and then, after sitting in a traffic jam or something and keeping constant pressure on the brake pedal, the traction control light will then light up on my dash. And then a couple seconds later when the brake is released, it will go out, but by that time it is too late and it throws a check engine code. The check engine light will stay on for 2 or 3 days until the computer resets itself. I dont have a scan tool and I have not been able to get the car somewhere to read the code as of yet. Does anyone know off the top what might be causing this to malfunction? The car seems totally fine in all aspects.
OK, I finally got a chance to swing by Auto Zone. The code is a P0171 which apparently has nothing to do with the traction control, although they still come on together. According to the guy at Auto zone, the car is running to lean and the #1 bank. He told me it was probably a MAF sensor. But I just put a Brand new MAF sensor in the car only about 3-4 months ago. Then he said it could be my O2 sensor on the #1 bank. I hate to to keep dropping money if that isnt the problem. Any Ideas anyone????
Try spraying some carb choke cleaner around all your injectors while the engine is running. Once done with that, check all your vacuum lines and around intake mating surfaces.
Thanks I will Try That. I have an emmission test due in about a month. The check engine light does go out after driving the car about 75-100 miles. Does anyone know if the computer is then cleard out when the light is not on, or would it still show up with an OB2?
