Default 1994 SSEi ticking in dash...

Last week I started up the bonnie and as soon as I started to drive away from my house, this annoying ticking sound (sounds like a relay kicking in and out) started to come from the center of the dash somewhere. I had it in to the dealership and they said it has something to do with the AC. They said if they disconnect a module it stops, but my AC will stop functioning also. The only way to pinpoint it is for them to disassemble my dash and go from there. Have any of you had this problem?

The funny thing is that as soon as you set the climate control to a temperature above the outside ambient temperature, it stops. This means it'* definitely something to do with the AC, but even if I turn everything off, it will still continue unless i turn it on and set the temp for anything above the outside temp.

I was wondering if disconnecting the outside temperature probe would do anything?

Any thoughts guys? The relay sound is so annoying and I'm not gonna pay a dealer a couple hundred bucks to tear into my "beater" for an annoying relay.

First of all, disconnecting the outside temperature sensor will introduce a fault in the climate control system. Secondly, it is imperative to find the source of the clicking and identify as to what component it is. Need a 92-95 GH with a fsm & some climate control schematics. Some one will pipe in shortly.

the climate control is very close 92-94 and 95-99. Can you identify if the clicking is coming from the black box with the colored vacuum lines under the passenger side of the dash?

It could be an air mix door actuator clicking, maybe bound up or jammed. Are you getting air flow out the proper vents for the selected ventilation mode?

There is a techinical service bulletin for the 2000 and 2001 Bonnevilles, but it sounds very similar to what you're experiencing and the dealer'* diagnosis.

A/C - Module Emits a `Tick-Tock' Noise

File In Section: 01 - HVAC

Bulletin No.: 01-01-38-007

Date: May, 2001

TECHNICAL
Subject:
Tick-Tock Noise From HVAC Module Assembly (Install Spring)

Models:
1997-1999 Buick Park Avenue, Ultra with RPO CJ2
2000-2001 Buick LeSabre with RPO C67
2000-2001 Pontiac Bonneville with RPO C61

Condition

Some customers may comment that the Heater and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module Assembly emits a repeating "tick-tock" noise.

Cause

The "tick-tock" noise may be due to the two air mix (temperature) actuators on the Park Avenue HVAC module and the mode and air mix (temperature) actuators on the Bonneville and LeSabre HVAC module oscillating/cycling when they have reached a position on the HVAC module.

Correction

Install a deflector spring, P/N 25732764, in the covers of the two air mix (temperature) actuators on the Park Avenue HVAC module and in the covers of the mode and air mix (temperature) actuators on the Bonneville and LeSabre HVAC module.

Yeah, Okay Bill, that would seem logical. Sounds like a clock may have fallen back there with the "tick-tock" noise. No, just kidding. I've had an extremely long day. and I'm getting silly. Time to go to sleep. Archon, real good info, brother.
