Default taillight amber removal / tint question

so im pondering this. i read over the techinfo, seems pretty straightforward. my question is, will the windshield silicon suffice for the "caulk" mentioned in the guide?

next question is, the tinting guide [vht nightshades] says to spray it on the area you want tinted - this is on the outside, right? just want to verify... if thats the case, will it be weather resistant?

nother question. i go to remove the center peice, and the techinfo says to remove the bolts holding it down. is there something im missing? i cant get to the bolts because of a large, molded peice of carpeting thats tacked down. im concerned if i pull it off, ill bend it. so what am i missing?

EDIT* nevermind. i wasnt pulling hard enough

so ive decided that this is too big of a project for me to tackle tonight, and im ill-prepared for it. so im going to retool, restock, and tackle this project again friday. in light of this fact, do any of you pros have any tips for me? suggestions on what kind of "caulk" to use? i can see that the clips holding the carpetting on the top of the trunk lid will become an issue, where can i pick up some more for cheap? keep in mind that salvage yards around here are crap and ever have anyting i need, ever.

dremel tool - check
tool tips - check
time - check
grey VHT spraypaint - check

to pick up:
amber bulbs
silicon sealer*
deeper 10mm socket
painting tape
safety goggles*

the article in tech info pretty much covers it all... I would use a silicone sealer for the "caulk" just be sure you take your time and have fun

that is really dependant on how far apart you stretch it out, and how out of shape it becomes.. use your own discretion
