Yes, this is Bad. Nothing to protect your paint is left, some kind of wax/polish should be applied afterwards. Good dawn wash isn't bad once in a while, but you should seal your paint with right after.

I dawn up before a complete detail and wax. Cuts out a lot of crap before a clay job too

so I could use Dawn in place of a clay bar?

zzzzzeke 05-12-2004 08:08 AM

i highly doubt DAWN could wash away all the contaminants a clay bar can pick up.

claying is still very important...you will remove more then you think.....

The only thing I have done that removed as much as claying was the buffing I just
did with Meguirs's Mirror Glaze #3 cut...
was a smoooth squeeky clean finish after that i tell ya!

Dawn strips the wax, and it makes your claybar more effective, since it's not gummed up with wax.

It doesn't remove much, but claybar doesn't do much after the first time

whats a good claybar to get? Im thinking of picking up some Meguiars Gold Class for wax and I want to know what to look for. I ususally use a little Dawn anyway when I wash/wax my car. I swear that stuff can get out ANYTHING!
