Default Spoiler/ Wing repair

Got back from a party this weekend, took a few people in my car. Get back to the house and pop the trunk so everyone can get their stuff, all of a sudden I hear a loud crack.

Why would you open the trunk by grabbing the fiberglass spoiler.....why?

But it wasn't as bad as I thought. I Remove the spoiler and don't see any cracks but the rear mounting brackets inside the spoiler broke loose. Heres why.

Had to cut an access hole in the bottom. Ignore the 3m tape, I got ahead of myself.

Sorry for the bad photos, what you're seeing is a giant glob of liquid nails maybe? holding a rectangular metal mount.

The metal mount broke loose after setting it on the table.

I spent a few hundred for this spoiler from ASCD, granted it'* been a few years that it has held up but I still figured they would have connected all the mounts to a metal reinforcement inside, that way if one came loose it wouldn't be moving around in the spoiler.

Oh well, I hope to have it repaired by the weekend. My GTX wheel project is on hold. Just finished repainting a 93 full size blazer that required panel replacement, and I have a few more repaints to do before the weather gets too cold. Hopefully I can work on the wheels through the winter.

I know there isn't much aftermarket stuff for the bonnevilles in general but figured I'd post anyway. I'll post the repair over the weekend.

At least it didn't fly off while you were driving.

Repair is much like fabrication.. we love details about how to possibly fabricate stuff.

well after trying a few different routes, including adhesives and gorilla hair, went with the ol' reliable. Aluminum pop rivets. Sorry no photos, busy weekend.

The mounts had 3 holes, center hole was used for the bolt. Drilled through the fiberglass into those holes. Done.

I'm not allowing anyone to open my trunk again...
