I'm going to be painting some spots on my front bumper that got some bad paint transfer during the accident. I need some good tips from all you paint connoisseurs.
I'm going to be using a rattle can from Advance Auto the same color as my car.
I know i need to sand it, primer, sand, then the color, then sand, then clear, and then wet sand it after.
What grit sandpaper do i use for all of that? Any tips/tricks when doing it?

sand primer area with 400 grit
prime
sand primer with 500
then the the surounding area with 500 then 600 (going farther out and you get finer with the sand paper
mask everythine off well
spray your Base (rattle can paint)
let id dry and with 800grit.
Clear it
then for polisting water sand with 800-1200
and polish like theres no tomorrow (make sure you have lots of clear on it)


oh and you DONT need to sand between coats of base, or coats of clear, just between the base-clear coats

If it'* just paint transfer, I would try taking it off first. That would save you all the work. Plus, if it'* the bumper, I would think you want some paint with flexing agent in it. Otherwise it will be flaking sometime down the road.

Yea i tried just buffing it out but the paint is gone down to the bumper so the spots need to be painted.
Would Advanced Auto have paint with the flexing agent in it?

I've never noticed, but I need to do the same thing with our SUV. I heard that a local paint supply store can make up an aerosol can, so I'm going to see if they can do it with the flex agent.

Just get the clear with a flex agent in it, I'm not sure if you can get it at a parts store but maybe.

They do have bumper paint at Advance, but I dont konw if the have the color you need.
I think Ive seen black, grey & primer not shure about the clear.
