On the M90, if you do polish it, it will corrode. It'* only a matter of time.

As mentioned, the coating on the M62 is designed as a thermal transfer medium. Don't remove it, and don't re-paint it.

I'd rather do that!! All go AND show. I'd have to read up on how to do it. I'd like to take the SC off to do the coupler sometime anyway.
