Well I payed $350 to get mine done... but im close with the guy that did the work, so he hooked me up 
a GOOD job, with the whole car trimmed out your looking at anywhere from $5-6K

I agree with the $2000 and higher estimates for a good paint job. And also that the hood alone could be done for as little as perhaps $300, maybe a little more, with good paint.
A quick word about Maaco, (which we've covered in previous threads). . .
Maaco heavily advertises their inexpensive paint jobs with fun names like "The Ambassador" and whatnot. Don't get these. They don't mask well, they barely prep your car, and they use inexpensive and lousy quality paint. However it *can* be possible to get good paint work out of a Maaco, but there are several things you have to deal with. They are all independently operated, so any given Maaco might be good, or might suck. The key here is CHECK LOCAL REFERENCES on the particular Maaco you might think about going to. Additionally, you must specify that they use the correct factory-style paint, and not their cheap acrylic one-step. In general they are totally happy to do this, it can be a real relief for them to work with someone who actually wants them to do a good quality paint job rather than just the least expensive paint job, and they can charge more for "real" paint. If there are any trim pieces attached to the parts you want painted, or if you're getting your entire car painted, we highly recommend you remove them yourself before delivering your car. And finally, if your car has any rust or needs any body work, it'* best to get this done elsewhere before having your car painted. It'* easy for everyone to just say "Maaco sucks, don't go to Maaco." -And they might be right. But other body shops can suck too. If you do your homework ahead of time, you *can* get good paint work out of *some* Maacos. I'd guess around $300 to $400 for just the hood.
I got my rear bumper refinished for $300 using the factory basecoat-clearcoat paint at a local Maaco and it looks fine. My other local bodyshop wanted $1700 to remove the bumper, send it out for stripping and refinishing, and re-installing it. I just had a little spot where paint had peeled off near one of the rear reflectors, so it wasn't worth $1700 to me.
