Default How do you care for a car?

Seriously. Travis just got his 93, And it looks like the dealer waxed it with some cheap wax and an electric buffer. It looks really crappy and has these half circle lines all over the car. What do we do to fix that? And when'* he supposed to wax it and stuff? This car'* paint is worth preserving, But we've got no idea how. Neitherof us has ever waxed a car so... How do you care for a car?

You've never waxed a car?? You really need to wax your car, do it tonight resident redneck!

Get some megs gold class.. a foam applicator.. and a lint free cloth.. preferrerbly 100% cotton.. but hey not all of us can afford that . Wax on, wax off .

well, yeah.. but I mean, waxing is a start. I wax everytime my car runs long enough to move it to the backyard [once every month or so loL]. My baby looks beautiful everytime I wash/clay bar/wax. not too bad for a car which you could scratch the entire clear coat off... The sides have a nice glare.

8 hours for a wash, clay bar, wax?......i can wash, clay bar, wash, #83, #81, and NXt in under 4 hours......plus tire and rim cleaner...then tire shine.....

wax is a protective coat....polish gives the wet look and gloss!

i deem these are pretty good results for 195K

**EDIT**

meguiars results can speak for themselves

http://www.meguiarsonline.com is a great resource....check out the extreme make overs section....proves that anything is possible!

zzzzzeke'* posting is right on the money. If you are going to do the job correctly his post shows the correct way.

It sounds like the dealer introduced micro marring into the clear coat. Polishing is the correct way to remove the micro marring.

4 hours?? dude It takes me 45 minutes to clay bar my deck lid, 60 for the roof, and 60 for the hood, 2 hours for the rest of the car. It takes me just under an hour to wax her once, and I will go over the deck lid, roof, and hood twice, after about an hour or two of sitting. I was before, and after the clay bar process. My deck lid/roof/hood has no shine, I just don't want bare metal comming through, and I hate the big dirt that gets into the pores of the crappy clear coat. When I get home, i'll post some pics of my roof. You'll see why GM pisses me off at times.

I normally pic a slow day when I dont drive anywhere to wax my car so I wash it wait til it dries and then wax the car. This way the hood is not hot and the wax is easier to come off (Also the car is in the garage) and let it sit on there all say. The next day like a saturday i will take the wax off and the car is as slick as it can be

Is it better to wax it and let it sit overnight?

If I let my wax sit for 30 minutes, it never wants to come off, so i don't think letting it sit is a good idea.
