You don't need to remove the packs to clean the engine. If you are worried about them, put a plastic bag over them.
Otherwise each pack has two screws holding it on..or three bolts hold the whole tray on.

all i have ever done is put a plastic grocery bag over them..keeps em dry, keeps engine running on all 6

If hosing them makes the engine studder then it'* time to look at the wires and coil packs. All should be sealed from the elements.
When I clean my engine ... everything gets a thourogh hosing.

I always bag mine just incase, can't hurt it if i protect it..after that i usually use an old toothbrush and some degreaser on them..i can do a better job like that anyways.
