Default vented valve guides

Can anyone tell me why the intake valves are vented outside the head on my 57 star chief?
I am useing a little oil on start up and would like to replace the guides. However the guide is drilled and the valves(intake) are notched in the center of the stem. Any problem going with solid valves and plugging the holes?

I'm not sure. Is it fuel injected or carbed?
I did find this site.

http://www.p-*-t.com/gm/gmengpon.html

It seems to have fairly reasonable prices.

Only the '57 Bonnevilles were Fuel Injected
Sorry, the3rsss, I cannot help you with your valve guides. I found this 57 Pontiac 347 engine on Ebay

I drove a 56 Pontiac (I think it was a Chieftan) with a 316 4BBL V-8. and WIDE Whitewall tires. 4 Door Hardtop - 2 Tone (Green and White) Ahhh....the good ol' days.

Sorry we are not being of great help for you so far, but it doesn't mean we're ignoring you, just that we have been having trouble getting the info you need. Anyway, if you're still looking here, see the following info from Bob Dillon:

I'm sure the answer will be "no prob" on replacing the guides with solid guides and stems.

I can't imagine anyone notching a valve stem. It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
I hope this helps.
