Default 2004 Impala 3.8 need torque specs and bolt patterns

I am putting in a new upper intake manifold which might lead to a new lower intake manifold with new gaskets.

I have every part I need, except O'Reilly'* gave me the incorrect gasket set on upper intake.
they didn't give me whay i call thr "mickey mouse" gasket that seals to the EGR valve tube and hose...on upper intake. The vin is a k but the parts that fit it really fall into the vin 1 relam.

Anyways I just need the torque specs and bolt patterns for both parts
Much appreciated!!!!

According to my manual, upper intake bolts are 11lbft with no particular pattern. When I do these, I usually do three stages:

1. Finger tight
2. About half tight
3. All the way tight

The EGR valve shows 21lbft.

Sorry, "half" and "all the way" are in reference to the 11lbft specification. I should have said:

1. Finger tight
2. 5.5lbft
3. 11lbft

It is important to get torque right, especially on these plastic manifolds. A lot of folks do it by feel or go by their gut from decades of experience, then they often have to fix stuff. We have another thread going on right now that has this happening over and over. These modern-ish engines aren't like the old days where some guys could get away with three ugga duggas with their air impact on each head bolt and the head gasket would stay sealed.

Default I miss

those engines .... Small block 350- it takes 5 sec to change a starter lol....

Well I can definitely tell my car hasn't been. Touched in years I've had it for 5 months. Yesterday TAKING off bolts, the thermostat outlet cracked completely, so there was a crack there explains some issues- the thermostat sensor was bad, another issue, and the EGR valve bolt drivers side cracked but is "still holding"..... 🫤
I did get the Bottom intake "finger tight" yesterday to make sure it fit, the cast was good and the gaskets didn't move.
Ft pounds for the bottom is 11/bs? 7 for top?
I have a ft / lbs torque wrench so all in to lbs has to be converted to ft/lbs.
and yes before I took off the Bottom intake, I did just tighten the upper and nadda.
But the bottom was so bad we had piled covered gaskets.
Fun stuff..... Lmao let'* hope I can get the replacement parts for issues I didn't even know about Today - get the bottom torqued down
Get the top on.
Antifreeze in, and if the creek don't rise and God willing it starts.

Thank you

Common sense and experience work as well as a torque wrench for most things. I always torque the heads and intake manifolds but about everything else is touch.

Well . . . yeah, then an hour to sort out the terminals on the wires connected to it, halfway rotted to oblivion because of the heat!

I've never seen the thermostat housing crack on one of these!

11lbft for both.

Inch-pounds divided by twelve equals foot pounds.

While you're doing all of this, if it has plastic coolant elbows you should replace them with metal.
