Default Timing Issue

On the 2008 Chevy Malibu 4cylinder, is the motor a zero tolerance motor? Both cams are off by half a degree and curious without popping the head off, will the valves hit and ruin the pistons? Trying to decide if its worth it to fix the timing issue or just replace the whole motor?

-Thanks

Are you talking an interference engine versus a non-interference engine?

Half a degree off shouldn't interfere. How are you measuring this?
