i cleaned the iac, and butterfly, and it was dirty, but still didn;t help. I will do the idle learn procedure next. I don't know if this is related, but the speedometer quit working shortly before the high idle thing happened.. also, there are no chek engine lights or stored codes. could a speed sensor problem be related to anything here? thank you all.

the only thing that effects is trans if it is the speed sensor. if you cleaned all that its likely a vacuum or gasket leak. get some carb cleaner and run it spraying around and if the engine changes when you squirt thats a leak

Just wanted to let yall know, I got it fixed. I am not sure exactly which procedure fixed it, but here is what i did . I cleaned the IAC, and seat, I cleaned the throttle body/butterfly, (which was quite dirty), I did the idle learn procedure that you all described, and I also replaced the speed sensor ( the speedometer wasn't working). Anyway, speedo works, and she'* running like a top. Thanks to yall. really appreciate this forum! Mike.
