Default Lumina dies when shifting

I have a 91 chevy lumina, and sometimes it will die when shifting from reverse to drive. Some one asked me if my brake lights work. They do, but what does this have to do with it? also, could it be the TCC in the transmission. Any help would be appreciated , thank you, Mike.

alot of times its a vacuum leak, making the idle unstable and shifting puts more load on the engine and it cant keep up

look at all the lines and see if any are hard or brittle, like dry rotted tires looking. if not than you can idle the engine and spray carb cleaner around the suspect areas and listen to the engine pitch to change
