Default impala 1 big issue

2001 impala 3.8L 4t65e trans. i bought this car only 2 months ago. it has only 80,000 miles and my grandma bought it new. the trans has major issues... sometimes. when it runs fine its perfect. when it doesnt the trans takes too long to shift and hits too hard after it does shift. all gears except last is smoothest. if im slowly braking or coasting or going around a corner slowly and then i lightly press the gas, immediately it bangs into gear very hard. NO LIGHTS ever light up and i dont know how to check codes on this car.

from my research ive concluded that its the pressure control solenoid. sticking?. when it goes into that "mode" of not working my trans goes into max line pressure and that exacerbates the problem. (00-03 supposably faulty pcs) i may be completly wrong. i need help

when its running good it runs like a new car still. but i know its going to fry my trans.. soon..
THANKS

Whats the fluid look like? Is it red or black? If its black and smells burnt thats not good. If it still red your prolly good with just finding the problem and fixing that. If its black and burnt smelling it prolly would be best to replace the trans.

I had the same symptoms on my 2001 Bonny at 90k miles. after doing research on this board, I installed a shift kit and converted my trans fluid from Dexron III and Dexron VI. Made a huge improvement, Bonny is now at 165k miles and trans is doing fine.

Shift kit, change the filter and fluid, upgrade to Dexron IV. May fix the problem, may only be a temporary fix, or may do nothing, but certainly worth the try. Send a PM to Danthurs if you want to buy an inexpensive shift kit.
