gm ecotec 1.8L in sonic
I am looking at purchasing Chevy sonic with ecotec 1.8L (2014). Anyone know how reliable are these engines. Do they all have timing belt or some have chain. How long does timing belt usually last in this engine. What are the most common problems with this engine.

I haven't heard a lot about them, which is probably good.
I know they don't sell huge numbers in the US, and they are often a throw-away car when any major repairs are needed.
How many miles on the one that you're looking at?

If it has been maintained well and you maintain it well and don't beat it too much, it could be a good deal.

Just bought the sonic. Seems to work well except the driver'* heated seat. When it is turned on, the light seems to go off after a couple of seconds and doesn't heat. Is this a common problem and what is the likely cause of failure.

Congratulations!
It'* probably a broken element in the seat warmer. Might want to check relays first before taking the seat apart.
