FOB Programming 2018 Impala PB start
I recently bought two new fobs for his car, the one the wife uses is pretty beat up and not all buttons work. The second fob works fine all functions.
I programmed the new fobs according to: insert key in door handle - turn five times etc. and thought I'd followed the instructions ok.
I have two working fobs. One I put in the cupholder (not the special spot for programming) and the other is in the key slot in the door.
The button functions on the new fobs all work. The new fobs can start the car remotely and unlock the doors but when I enter the car and push the start button both fobs get the message that no fob is detected. Putting them in the pocket in the center console does allow me to start the car.
I have changed the battery in the fobs, same thing happens.
I can't figure out why the car does not acknowledge the new fobs but it does allow that fob to start the car and unlock the doors.
I do have an Xtool D7 scanner that does have a key feature on it but I don't dare to use it for this. I am not a professional mechanic and have not used this that much. It has the option to erase all keys and start over, that idea does not appeal to me as quite frankly I haven't done it before and she uses the car daily.
This does bring up a few questions on my end though.
There must me a maximum number of allowed fobs. The car was a rental car which I am sure had two fobs at one time. I was only given one with the car and had to program the second one (which works fine) With adding two more (total of 5 now) could that be an issue.
Once a fob is programmed can it be re-programmed to the same vehicle?
Can I remove fob associations without removing all of them?
Were I to use the scanner and delete all fob associations how would I then program the lot of 4 fobs? Maybe I should just go through it and see how much trouble I can get myself into.

. . . and we'd love to hear how it goes!

The link provides the same instructions I followed. The result was as described above. New fobs are not recognized by the car unless they are in the special programming slot.
I ran them through this procedure a second time, no change.
What I need to know now is how to proceed with what I have. Two programmed keys that work and two new one which work except for the being recognized by the car.
I could follow the method of not having any working fobs which seems to start with programming fob 1. Is this a reasonable approach for me now? Can the fobs be reprogrammed?
