equinox 2.4 oil consumption problem
my daughter has a 2013 equinox with 2.4 with 70k miles.. anyhow to make short story it was making a clacking noise and it was taken to a chevy dealer and it did have an aftermarket warrantee. the dealer said that it was prob the pistons making the noise. they said they could cover it under customer satisfaction deal. "it'* not a warranty though. it'* this special coverage GM waiver" Has anyone had their equinox repaired for oil consumption problem and what all was replaced and what all did they say needed to be done that GM wouldnt pay for. Dealer wouldnt give her a breakdown of what they were doing for free. but were several things that she would have to pay for such as water pump seeping, exhaust manifold due to a crack.
something now about "found a crack in an air injector" sometimes its not easy relaying from my daughter ......

Special Policy-N192291100-01. 7 yr 6 months or 120K miles witch ever comes first.Replace pistons, rings, primary chain kit, balance chain and tensioner, needed bolts gaskets and seals, oil filter, oil, and coolant, along with the labor for the repair. Anything else is the owners responsibility. Example-Cam actuator,Exhaust manifold, cam actuator solenoids, water pump. The policy is for oil consumption. Hope this helps
the vehicle was taken in for a noise which i thought by listening to a recording thought it may have been cam actuator They told my daughter they were doing the work you stated but also replacing 2 connecting rods. since I didnt physically here the noise I have to assume they are correct . What could have caused the 2 connecting rods to be damaged? Thanks for any thing you can help me understand. I was a ASE master tech for several years having worked on cars for 40 years.

If these engines get 2.5 to 3 qts low on engine oil they "knock"( I think more of a deep rattle to me.) on acceleration from the cam actuators. Haven't seen to many with rod issues unless they were really run low on oil and kept driving. If nothing else it'* over lapping labor. Would like to see the rods AND bearings if there is any doubt, just to satisfy my curiosity.
It sounds like the dealer is doing the right thing, and yeah while they're in there if the water pump is seeping then it should be replaced. Much better than letting it go out first. As for the exhaust manifold, if it doesn't cost a horrible amount then that'* a good call as well. It will only get worse . . . and depending on where the crack(*) is/are it might get worse just be removing and reinstalling it.
Wished I would've known about this one sooner. My wife'* Equinox uses some oil. Looks like I'll be performing this Special Policy procedure on my own dime since I missed the 7 yr/ 120K marker.
What ever happened to GM quality/longevity like the 3.8'*, that were so reliable!
It'* stories like this that makes me wonder, who is designing these 2.4 engines anyways?

I've got friends in the business still. I may see what they can do for me. At 130,000 miles I dunno what to expect. I've had some good help with the car over the course of the last couple of years with a transmission repair that turned into a rebuild with me just paying the labor end of it. $900 bucks for a complete rebuild wasn't a bad deal considering everything and then when our steering control module went out he managed to find a Special Policy to plug into so the steering gear was covered completely under the Policy. We'll see.....
Right you are!!! Those 3800'* were the BOMB!!! Reliable and just great engines. At one time back in the 90'* they were in the top ten engines in the world. Aside from the occasional water pump or oil pan sealing issues they were bulletproof.
