I don't know what the manual says. I am not a mechanic so I don't have this manual. Does anyone have a manual and can share this. The mechanic who has been working for audi for over 15 years was looking at youtube video for instructions to do this.

The mechanic (different than one working on my verano) has the task of replacing my timing chain. The sprockets (without vvt) , he had to force onto the shaft by tightening the bolts . He couldn't just slip them on and almost looks like the metal has to be squeezed on sprocket "key" to fit into the slot. The slots are designed off center. I thought these should just slip on as (slot and key) , Could the sprockets be reversed (intake and exhaust) ? Anyone done this job and run into this ?

Some are keyed and some are pressed on. The key indexes the cam. For a press it MUST be indexed before pressing. I'd get somebody that knows what they are doing. You shouldn't have to find out the information they should have.

The mechanic working on this vehicle should know what to do and/or have the information available to figure it out and implement the information while using their skills and experience.

That having been said: It'* worth ~$50.00 to buy a manual to help with this. Either you buy it and keep it no matter how many mechanics you go to, or tell them to buy one and they can eat the cost and probably work it into your bill:

Here'* one for sale at this moment: https://www.ebay.com/itm/23398172428...3ABFBMhoDF-fdi

Well, he has finished working on the car and it seems to run well. We are so happy that one of our 2 cars is now running and we can get around.

Great news!

What did they finally do to get it put together?

The mechanic said that the TDC for the engine ended up on the exhaust stroke and not the compression stroke...then the sproket fit fine and chain marks lined up.
Car seems to run just fine as I have driven in a couple of times today. It also starts nicely without any of the noises I was getting previously.
