New to this forum, need info for a 2003 C5 Z06 Corvette. It has a vibration which I believe is the harmonic damper. I was told a small number of these motors had an internal balance problem from the factory. GM'* fix was to add weight to the harmonic balancer. Mine has weights in the factory holes, one even has greenish paint on it. Since the balancer rubber is bulging on one side, I think it'* failing. The car is mint with only 19k miles. I called one of the top aftermarket balancer companies and their tech guy said he can't sell me one of his because there is no place to add the extra weight. He said that since my outer ring spun, the only way to fix it is to remove the crankshaft and do a proper balance on it. GM'* factory manual says replace it with another and transfer the weights from the old to the new. But, there is no pin on these cranks-what if the whole balancer spun or the outer ring spun so I can't tell which holes line up where? Anybody ever heard of this problem on a few of the Z06 cars? if there is to shear key it is different from alot, not sure about your problem but if you call a dealer with your vin they can see if it ever had the weight put on it
